WOOD DOOR LIMITED WARRANTY

Every Southwood door is covered under warranty for a period of one (1) year and guaranteed to be free from defects resulting from manufacturing or workmanship. The warranty period begins on the date the dealer receives delivery of the door.

Should the warranted door be found to contain defects as stated above, Southwood Doors will, at its option, either repair or replace the defective door at no charge, or issue a full refund to the distributor to facilitate a refund to the end user.

If a defect is discovered upon inspection of a door upon receipt of shipment from Southwood Doors, notice must be given immediately, and before the door is shipped to the end user or installed. A replacement door unit will be shipped pre-paid to the distributor of origin. If damage is discovered after delivery from the distributor, the distributor must be notified immediately and prior to installation. Responsibility will be assessed, and the end user will be accommodated accordingly.

Under the terms of this warranty, Southwood Doors is obligated to replace the defective product, F.O.B. distributor’s warehouse from which the original sale was facilitated. Labor, installation, finishing, and/or consequential damages are not covered under this warranty.

Warp Tolerances

Warp of up to ¼” in any plane of the door is acceptable for all doors 8’0” and shorter and 42” or less in width.

Doors wider than 42” and/or taller than 8’0” are not warranted against warp.

Installation and Maintenance Requirements

Weather Protection:

All doors must be installed with sufficient protection from weather, including excessive moisture, rain, and heat due to sun exposure. Adequate protection requires an overhang projection equal to at least half the distance from the floor to the ceiling of the overhang.

Sealing and Maintenance:

Deterioration of wood components caused by neglect or failure to protect and seal all exposed surfaces and edges of the door prior to or immediately after hanging is not covered by this warranty. All door units, regardless of exposure, must be inspected and maintained annually by the homeowner.

Reasonable maintenance includes:

Ensuring a clear topcoat with UV inhibitors is applied and maintained throughout the life of the door.

Avoiding painting the door black or other dark opaque colors, as these colors increase heat/UV absorption and void the warranty.

Inspection:

Southwood Doors reserves the right to require on-site inspections of maintenance and installation procedures before processing any warranty claim.

Wood Characteristics:

Variations in color, texture, grain, or general surface appearance of wood are natural and not considered defects. Professional staining methods are recommended to address color variations.

Floating Panels:

All wood doors are constructed with floating panels to accommodate natural expansion and contraction. Water penetration through the panels due to exposure to severe moisture or rain in an unprotected environment is not considered a defect. Consumers are responsible for addressing water penetration through appropriate caulking or other remedies.

Knots in Knotty Alder Wood:

The natural beauty of Knotty Alder wood includes knots of various shapes, sizes, and placements, which are not considered defects. Consumers desiring doors without knots may custom order the same design in an alternative wood species, such as mahogany.

Open knots exposing the inner core of the wood will be filled with black epoxy for durability.

GLASS LIMITED WARRANTY

Southwood Doors warrants that all glass will be free from seal failure for ten (10) years from the date of shipment. Southwood Doors will, at its option, repair or replace defective glass.

This warranty does not cover glass breakage under any circumstances, including thermal fractures or physical impacts.

NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY

1. Doors that are installed and not sealed completely including the top of the door slab. All doors must be sealed within 30 days of job site installation.

2. Damaged doors that have been

delivered to the job site.  All doors are

delivered to the distributor.  The distributor must receive the doors and note any

damages to the crate/wrapping material

immediately.  Doors delivered by the

distributor to job sites are the sole

responsibility of the distributor.

It is imperative to use high quality stains and clear coats that contain UV inhibitors specifically formulated for exterior window and door use.  PPG Door and Window Finish is an example of an acceptable product specifically formulated for the application of exterior doors.

Painting or staining doors black, gray, brown, or any dark opaque color will void door warranty.  These opaque colors absorb heat and sunlight rather than reflecting the elements that lead to cracking, warping, and expansion/contraction of components of the door.

Excessive exposure to wet weather will result in water intrusion through the panels and other assembled wood components as well as glass stops and beads.  Water will soak into the wood components resulting in separation of  the joints of wood components.

Do not use a garden hose or any direct stream of water to clean your door. Spraying water directly onto the door can force moisture into joints, panels, or unfinished edges, leading to warping, swelling, or damage to the wood and finish. Additionally, water can penetrate through the floating panels, causing leaks that may damage the interior or surrounding areas. Instead, clean your door using a soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and water, and ensure all surfaces are thoroughly dried immediately afterward. Proper cleaning techniques will help maintain the door’s integrity and appearance.
